Paddington Deli & Epicerie, Latrobe Terrace, Paddington

With the opening of her antique-inspired deli, Paddington Deli & Epicerie, Antoinette Pease is living the dream and escaping from the corporate world.

Taking over from much-loved Monty's Chocolates, Paddington Deli fills two shop fronts in the Paddington Antique Centre building with a collection of highly sought after deli items and a light meals offering.

Being positioned so close to the antique centre was a blessing for Antoinette who is a serious antique lover. She scoured the shops herself to outfit the deli.

It's only been opened three days but the smashed avocado on sour dough with persian fetta and sweet corn was better than I've had anywhere, and the salad of cauliflower, spinach, goats cheese, walnut and pomegranate was lightly dressed with an exquisite aged balsamic. Prices ranged between $9 and $11 for lunch items.

There's fresh bread and milk, just like the old days when I used to walk down the Latrobe Terrace to pick up daily supplies when I lived nearby. Expect to find shelves groaning with the weight of delectable goodies and a cold cabinet brimming with interesting meats, salads and cheeses.

At the moment the pastries, cakes and biscuits are being bought in but as they settle into the new premises this will change.  I hope they keep the macarons though, they were just divine.

Bottom line: A quality food offering with reasonable prices

Best tip:  Parking is difficult in this area.  Allow plenty of time to find a spot and take a bag for your goodies because you are sure to leave with some.
