Looking for Leonardo at The Astral Tower & Residences, Sydney

A private (well almost) lift, two bedroom apartment and multiple balconies all in the heart of Sydney … it felt very lifestyles of the rich and famous and that’s because it was.

The Astral Tower & Residences at The Star was home to Leonardo DiCaprio during the filming of The Great Gatsby and a host of other celebrities, including Eat,drink+beKerry (joke folks), have walked its corridors.

With private balcony, separate dining/living areas, a kitchen and full laundry facilities, the hotel offers everything a world famous actor or blogger from Brisbane could possibly need.  I did spend a micro second wondering if Leonardo ever used his kitchen or laundry facilities but I’m sure he would have wandered out on the balcony to take in the view.

I stayed in a two bedroom apartment which was around 90m2 of five-star luxury overlooking Pyrmont. This is a great place from which to explore Sydney but with so much at your fingertips at The Star, you may not wander far. Yes there’s a luxury spa, more than 20 restaurants and cafes, a world-class casino and a nightclub just down the hallway, not that you would know from inside your apartment.

Highlights include restaurants Momofuku Seiobo, Black by ezard, Stefano Manfredi’s Balla, Chase Kojima’s Sokyo, Bistro 80, Adriano Zumbo’s patisserie, the Marquee nightclub, cocktail bar Cherry and live music bar Rock Lily, plus a luxury shopping precinct.

My visit was just days shy of the opening of Sydney’s newest rooftop bar, Sky Terrace, which will open every Friday and Saturday evening until January 9. It will feature a variety of pop up food stations serving Wagyu Beef Sliders, Chicken Satay, Southern BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches, vegetarian options and Movenpick ice cream.

Here’s my two bedroom apartment which was extremely comfortable and even had a walk-in wardrobe.  My only suggestion is bedside lamps which are a must for my night time reading.

And if it’s your sort of thing, there’s always the casino for entertainment.

The Star

Best tip: Great for easy access around Sydney.

Bottom line: Room prices start at a very reasonable for Sydney $259. My two bedroom apartment costs $339.
