Feel like a princess with High Tea at Bacchus, South Bank

Sometimes do you just want to live like a princess? Feel like you are enjoying the high life and dining with royalty?

Well, I don’t want to burst your bubble with too much reality but high tea at Bacchus might be as close as most of us get to feeling royal.

Bacchus at Brisbane’s South Bank has gone all out with their high tea and imported specially commissioned William Edwards fine bone china from England, the very same crockery that is used at The Goring where the late Queen Mum liked to take High Tea. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge stayed the night at The Goring before the Royal Wedding adding to the china’s royal cred.

So while you are elegantly nibbling a scone and sipping a cup of Harney & Sons tea you can dream a little dream of a princess life.  At least, that’s what I did with two friends on a Friday afternoon tea.  Decked out in plastic tiaras we sipped champagne and channelled Princesses Catherine, Caroline and Di for a right royal gab fest.

We ate our way through delicate finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones with Bonne Maman raspberry preserve and cream chantilly, plus an assortment of sweet delights including a chocolate éclair, tart au citron, macaroons and cake du jour.

Sitting in a very high-backed chair surrounded by the modern elegance of the Bacchus dining room it was easy to be swept away with fun and laughter.  Like all good girl's gatherings, we shared too many secrets including some great make-up tips.

The Bacchus High Tea menus have been painstakingly prepared by Executive Chef Dominic Rose in conjunction with Executive Pastry Chef Kylie Fraser.

“My vision is to offer patrons a unique, luxurious experience that transports them from their busy daily lives to a place where they indulge and enjoy time with friends,” Kylie says.

And thanks Kylie for taking me out of the humdrum and making this girl feel like a princess.
