One of Brisbane's best markets just got even better with a makeover that includes new dining precinct and plenty of seating.
It's one of my biggest complaints about markets - there's often nowhere to sit down. Juggling a coffee and a hamburger when your arms are full of shopping bags is no fun at all.
Eagle Farm Markets's new dining precinct includes 200 seats, many under cover which will be great when the weather warms up.
There's a good array amongst the 150 stalls with clothing, flower and jewellery stalls in the mix and vegetable and fruit food focus at the rear.
I came home with plenty of goodies including a double bunch (six stems) of oriental lilies for $20 (much cheaper than I have seen elsewhere), a triple box of strawberries for $9 (and he threw in an extra box), and well-established herbs in pots for my back yard (3 for $10).
Brunch was a salmon bagel and a banh mi, both deliciously fresh. It wasn't hard to find a seat so we could enjoy our spoils while we listened to the live music. After a stroll and some more purchases, we finished off with a coffee in a different spot and also found a seat there.
There's a children's entertainment area near the entrance with plenty to keep youngsters occupied. The pony rides looked particularly popular.
Keep your eyes open because there are also some stalls under one of the stands that are easy to miss.
Entry to the markets is $2 per person which also includes parking, and for once there's plenty of it.
The only downside is that dogs are not allowed at this market.
