Ten top ways to say 'I love you' on Mother's Day in 2014

Although every day should be Mother’s Day, it’s nice to make one day special with treats for the person who not only brought you into the world, but smoothed your path along the way.

As a daughter and mother I know it’s not always the easiest job and sometimes we don’t get it right but in the end it’s all about love.

So here are my top picks for celebrating Mother’s Day with the ones you love. Remember to book as quickly as these are sure to be popular.

And here’s to you Mum x

1 Say it with a cake

Give mum some Mother’s Day love with a beautiful cake or cupcakes. Chester Street Bakery and Bar has oh-so-pretty cakes (see opening photo) are available in two sizes; small $42 and large for $85, and  assorted cupcakes are $26 for 6 cupcakes.

2 Take Mum to Japan

Don’t get too worried – I’m thinking more the feel of Japan than an actual trip. Treat Mum to some authentic Japanese dining at Sono Restaurant city or Portside. You could book a private traditional Tatami dining room, complete with Shoji screens that will seat up to 12 family and friends or try the Teppanyaki at Portside.

3 Mother’s Day High Tea Picnic

Pull out the picnic set and folding chairs and take Mum on a picnic to enjoy some glorious Autumn sunshine.  Let The Picnic Society do all the hard work for you with their perfect high tea picnic for four which includes a range of gorgeous treats and everything you need to enjoy a picnic with your mum.

4 Mother's Day Breakfast

Treat your mum to a cheeky breakfast at the eclectic Alfred & Constance with cinnamon and ricotta pancakes or the vodka and dill cured salmon. Sneak in a mid-morning Breakfast Martini with gin, Cointreau and orange marmalade or celebrate the occasion with a Peach & Honey Bellini topped with sparkling wine.  You can sit on the sun-filled deck or find a cosier spot in the café for two. Settle into one of the couches of the Tunes Bar for a post-breakfast tea and treat, and indulge in a sweet delight made especially for Mums.

5  Mother’s Day High Tea or Lunch

Treasury Casino is hosting high tea sittings on May 10 and 11 with sweet and savoury treats accompanied by a glass of Moet Champagne on arrival and live entertainment. Best of all the parking in The Myer Centre is included. Cost is $66 per person. Treasury Heritage Hotel’s lab bar + restaurant on Sunday will also host a Mother’s Day Lunch on 11 May with a menu that finishes with a decadent 70 per cent cacao chocolate tart with raspberry marshmallow and boysenberry ice cream. Cost is $85 per person and it includes a box of choccies and parking.

6 Mum eats free

A lack of funds is no excuse with this offer from Vapiano. Take your Mum in anytime from May 1 to May 11 and she can eat free when you order any full priced meal. No vouchers or codes needed. That's amore for Mamma for less!

7 Movie mums

Palace Barracks Cinemas is hosting a Mother's Day High Tea on Sunday May. The upstairs of area of the cinema, which has panoramic views of Brisbane City, will be transformed into an elegantly adorned high tea affair with a traditional sit-down high tea and a myriad of traditional high tea delicacies. After the high tea there will be a special screening of the movie ‘Chef' staring Jon Favreau, Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara and Robert Downey Jr. The movie follows a chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family.

8 Sunday Roast

For once it won’t be mum cooking the Sunday roast but the chefs at Public Restaurant & Bar instead.  Their Mother’s Day Sunday Road lunch is $65 per person and includes a complimentary cocktail or a glass of bubbles for mums.

9 Organic mums

If your mum likes her food organic Mondo Organics is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Mother’s Day with a set menu for lunch and dinner. Main/Dessert $50, Entree/Main $55   Entree/Main/Dessert $65. They also have vegan options.
