Taste the regions at South Bank

Headlining the food side of Delectable, Regional Flavours, South Bank Corporation’s signature food and lifestyle event is back for 2012 this weekend, from 10am to 5pm, 21 and 22 July.

My best tip for this event, which is sure to be a winner, is get there early. Parking and space is sure to be at a premium later in the day.  You have been warned!

The country comes to the city for two days for Regional Flavours with over 100 providores from 12 of Queensland’s most fertile ‘food-bowl’ regions.

This year’s program also explores the culinary contributions of immigrants in regional Queensland; the family food stories that inspire our state’s passionate chefs and restaurateurs; and healthy food and lifestyle choices.

Stallholders from regions such as South Burnett, Far North Queensland, the Granite Belt and Lockyer
Valley will all be represented with products available to sample and purchase on the Little Stanley awns at the Parklands, South Bank.

The Little Stanley Street dining precinct will also be highlighted through Kitchen Stories, a series of narratives, family recipes and memories featuring the multiethnic array of retailers on offer.

As well as the great range of producers, Little Stanley Street will be home to other free attractions:

Epicurious Tent:
See chefs, gardeners and lifestyle experts provide inspiring and thought-provoking tips, demonstrations and educational sessions dealing with everything from food fusion for kids’ lunchboxes to native foods gone gourmet. The Epicurious Tent will be open both Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm (25min to 55min per session). No bookings required. Spaces may be limited.

TLicious Garden:
Pick your way through the lush and fragrant tea garden while taking an educational journey through the tea story. There will be a series of informal sessions on the history of tea and tisanes that highlight our native flora and fauna, and the health benefits of tea. The Tea Garden will also feature interactive workshops for children, which will teach them about some of the natural flora and fauna from their local environment in a fun and creative way.

Froth and Bubbles Sessions in The Grove:
Learn all there is to know about picking, storing and drinking our state’s best wine and boutique-brewed beer. Sessions will be presented by local beer presenter, Matt Kirkegaard from Good Beer Lunches and Tricia Evans, one of Brisbane’s leading wine experts. No bookings required. Spaces may be limited.
